Week of October 20, 2014:

Questions of the week: Why is there a popping sound when a joint is adjusted (When you receive a Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy)?

The sound you hear¬†during a chiropractic adjustment is the result of dissolved gases‚ÄĒoxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide‚ÄĒbeing released into your joints. When a joint gets adjusted, you stretch the joint capsule. Gas is then released quickly, which forms bubbles. That is the same concept when you crack your knuckles*. The sound you hear is caused by change in pressure within the joint, causing gas bubbles to be released.¬†There is usually minimal, if any, discomfort during an adjustment.

*If you crack your knuckles, let us show you a safer technique to allow better flexibility in your hand joints.

A joint the moves properly will function properly.

Week of September 29, 2014:

Questions of the week: First 3 correct answers get a free #MikhailChiro T-Shirt.

In 1994, the New England Journal of Medicine conducted a telephone interview study of 1,500 individual, who had sought Alternative Health Care. The study found hat people were willing to pay for care out of their pockets rather than to accept ineffective care that was covered by a third party, such as an HMO. Top ten reasons were: Back Problems, Anxiety, Headaches, Sprains/Strains, Insomina, Depression, Arthritis, High Blood Pressure, Digestive Problems, and Allergies.

Alternative Medicine is a big umbrella that includes Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Osteopathy, Naturopathy, and many other therapeutic methods.

If we talk about only Chiropractic, then from a chiropractor view: Back problems, Headaches, Sprains/Strains will be top three reasons from the list above.

Week of September 22, 2014:

Questions of the week: First 3 correct answers get a free #MikhailChiro Water bottle.

1. Pain killers like Tylenol and Advil can cure back pain (T/F)?
2. A fallen foot arch may lead to altered the biomechanics, postural changes, back pain, and knee pain (T/F) ?

Correct Answers:

1. False. Pain Killers manage pain, but don’t cure back pain. Before you take more pills, educate yourself on the side effects of prolonged use of pain pills. Back pain may occur¬†due to many reasons. Most commonly, back pain is the result of mechanical imbalances¬†relating to prolonged sitting, inactivity, poor muscle conditioning, improper lifting, poor ergonomics and sleeping habits among many more reasons. Back pain can also be the result of more serious diseases and conditions such as arthritis, disc injuries, nerve injuries, and muscle strains. Chiropractic can effectively and safely treat and/or manage many conditions that causes back pain without medications.

arches-of-the-foot

2. True. Your foot has three different arches. Most people are aware of the one on the medial side. Many reasons can cause the medial arch to drop, where your medial side of the foot is touching the floor (duck foot). Among those reasons are: wearing flip flops, shoes with no or poor medial support, high heels. It can also result from obesity and degenerative changes in the body. Your whole body rely on this arch for proper biomechanics and when it falls, this puts pressure on the medial side of the knee causing knee pain. The extend of this domino effect exceeds more than just the foot pain and goes all the way up to affect the hips, pelvis, and the back. The altered biomechanics affects our posture, spine structure, and can cause muscles spasms and pain. Foot Orthotics are highly recommended for patients with a severe fallen arch. Chiropractic Manipulative therapy, Soft Tissue Treatments, and Kinesiology Taping can also help ease the pain, and restore proper function.

The Winners this week are: Violet Fawzy, Nasser Hanna, and Nader Elgallab.
